Gnome Wars: The Joust @ Fall In!

To All,

Just some shots from the joust that my son ran at Fall In this past weekend. There just a few pictures as the action was intense. A newcomer won the double elimination tournament this year. I was knocked from my chicken!

Sam-I-Am, a veteran of the joust and all things Gnome Wars takes on a newcomer...

 ...action from another table.

A Samurai and Bunny Cavalry meet at the rail.

That is a handsome man figuring out the 25 player bracket.

I get knocked off my mount, Pancake the Chicken, by a dame! I was disgusted and left my figure there so all could see my shame.

A close-up of my large ___________.... (fill in your own word you dirty bird).

Gnome Wars at Fall In: The Battle of Tuglas

To All,

Here is a sequential group of pictures for the Battle of Tuglas run on Friday afternoon at Fall In.

Allies in the trench and town, Germans, Japanese and Russians (plus dinosaurs) attacking.  That attackers make their first move heading toward the barbed wire.

The attackers lead with their cavalry hoping a speedy attack will startle the defenders:

North of the river, it's a wild run to the trench.....

...while to the South it is a coordinated, planned attack.

The attackers get to within rifle range, and Kevin and Scott (two of the most experienced and best  Gnome Wars players) start giving out dirt naps.

The action starts to heat up South of the river....

Thee assault continues. At this point I thought the attackers had no chance. The defenders were rolling well and the attack seemed disorganized and fragmented.

The triceratops smashes through the wire, but the Swiss Cheese thrower emerges from the trench and encases the dinosaur. The dinosaur later suffocates under the cheese.

The Russian cav jumps over the wire, but gets caught in 'no gnome's land' and get gunned down. At this point I would have bet on a defender victory.... but then the attackers start using their artillery and tanks to blow holes in the wire....

...and you can see the breakthroughs at both ends of the trench.

To the south, the attackers start slowly and steadily clearing the buildings and the slit trench.

The attackers make for the objective, the bridge. They capture it for the WIN!

I was awarded the "Young Guns" award for the game. I am honored.

More to come from the weekend.....

Zombie Apocalypse survivors.........

To All,

Here are my "party" for the Gnome Wars  zombie game on Saturday night at Fall In. King Stanton, McCray the berserker, Gunny the Shish Bomber, Vasily the Russian, and Dienekes - the three legged dog.

To create a party you have 32 "sides of die" to spend. So, the die the figure rolls is what point cost it is. (This is different from regular Gnome Wars thus, the explanation.) So here is my "party" with explanation:

 King Stanton: 10 points.
Stanton rolls a d10, which costs 10 points.  If there is a named character of you in the rules you have to take him. Stanton is a solid choice in any Gnome Wars game. Rolls a d10 in melee, gets a +1 modifier within 12 inches of his gold, can summon the "Rainbow Connection," and in regular Gnome Wars is a medic. In the zombie scenario leadership and silent zombie killing head smashing is key.

McCray the berserker: 10 points.
The name says it all. McCray wading into zombies, launching into bloodlust while Stanton gets away. It almost brings a tear to my eye.

Gunny the Shish Bomber: 6 points.
Gnome Wars is WYSIWYG, and you see that Gunny has no weapons. (which is why he rolls a d6 in melee in Gnome Wars). What he does have is one of the most powerful and largest blast radius in the game. But he is a bit of a wildcard for two reasons: The explosions draw zombies and the number of bombs he has is subject to the result of a d20.

Vasily the Russian: 6 points.
Vasily has no melee weapons except the blunderbuss, but that blunderbuss fires like a shotgun and, I believe, will be valuable in the close quarter fighting that I'm sure is coming. In addition because of his "great coat" he is always in light cover (-1 modifier to shooter) in case there are other alive or undead things that can shoot. At the very least I will bid Vasily 'Do svidaniya' as he blocks/defends an alleyway or doorway.

Dienekes: Non-combatant - no cost.
Dienekes is King Stanton's loyal companion and has pulled the wagon carrying the King's gold for decades. To old to fight, he will make sure the gold will be within 12 inches of Stanton.

I'm pretty confident with this crew. My son, who is running the game, questioned my choices and wondered why I didn't choose a ninja, a Highlander swordsman with a shield, or a Swiss halberd captain. All solid choices, but I'm standing pat with this.

Let me know your thoughts.......

Terrain Preview for the Fall In game - Gnome Wars: ....just not the slowest.

To All,

Here at a look at the terrain and buildings for the Gnome Wars Zombie game on Saturday night. This is the basic set up. The players will have 25 minuets to place barricades and fortifications.

The main buildings are the Farmstead and the Roadside Inn. Advantage - They both have courtyards with high walls. Disadvantage - Far from the escape route.

The Tower. It will be set away from the buildings with its own accommodations. Disadvantage - low barrier walls. Advantage - I don't think Zombies can climb ladders.

Cemetery.  If you have played in Gnome Wars games before, you know not to piss on anything in here!

Here are a few shots from a distance.

The GM is finalizing the list of available supplies. The players will have to make decisions on how to use them before the game begins. I will post the rules for making up your 'party' tomorrow.

All buildings, tents, and the tower are from the Miniature Building Authority and come out of the box, ready to play. Click on the link to check them out. The Miniature Building Authority.
